THE EXPERIENCE
Après-gravel
Like with après-ski, this doesn’t just refer to the post ride activities once the bike is parked and washed. Night time is the flip side of the day’s efforts – decompressing from the pressures of the outside world and reconnecting with what counts.
where we stay
Burn Camp
After stage 1, riders settle in at the bespoke Blaauwater Burn Camp where they stay for two magical nights, experiencing a full immersion into the unique hospitality, culture, local flavours and the hidden secrets in this special part of the world. When the sun sets on Burn Camp, something extraordinary ignites. Kindling by ChemChamp is a new way of connecting all our paths, the people and the land we navigate.
LAPA SET UP
Design by tradition
A sociable layout, Blaauwater Burn Camp consists of a series of small, intimate camp circles called Lapas (referring to a traditional Southern African shelter). Tents, and chairs, are arranged around the fire – it’s how it’s been for millennia.
AMENITIES
ChemChamp leads the way
The importance of the “by ChemChamp” part of our event’s name cannot be overstated. This cutting edge engineering company, based in Gqeberha, leads the way in chemical recycling and the team’s custom designed and manufactured premium showers and toilets for Nedbank Gravel Burn are used for Kindling. It’s the next step, as part of the vision – building a legacy of semi-permanent gravel stage racing infrastructure.
accommodation
Nights in nature
Your home at the event is a spacious canvas tent (the same as at Nedbank Gravel Burn), equipped with a premium camping bed, mattress, tent light, power, camping chair and a small table. At night, the Karoo sky becomes our roof with the warmth of the fire close by and the comfort of knowing everything we need is right here.
morning routine
First, coffee
The age-old cycling rituals apply, even when deep in the pristine Great Karoo. A wholesome breakfast and freshly brewed coffee – the perfect set up for the perfect day out on the gravel roads.
WIND DOWN
Afternoons well spent
After the day’s exploits on the bike, it’s time to unwind with a beverage, a massage and, as per cycling tradition, an in depth, informal debrief of the stage.
